DocKeep FAQ
Evaluating and Purchasing
How do I get, install and run DocKeep?
DocKeep can only be acquired as a download from the dockeep.com
website.
From the "Downloads" button on the left,
click the DocKeep version you'd like to try. The corresponding
.zip file downloads and unstuffs automatically (or you may have to open the file
manually) into a folder "Dockeep" or "DocKeep_Express". From there
open the folder and double click on the script "Double Click to
Install". Please agree to install the application, accept the
license terms, and you will be presented with the window
"installation complete" which requires your confirmation.
Now you are ready to run "DocKeep" or "DocKeep Express" from the Applications folder.
Is there an on-line demonstration showing DocKeep
in operation?
Yes. There is a demo of DocKeep Pro showing database
integration with FileMaker.
My DocKeep demo period has expired. Can I get a new demo?
Unfortunately, demo periods cannot be renewed. The best thing to do is to purchase
the software. Use it for up to 14 days. If it does not function as described, you can
contact us and arrange to return it for a refund.
The Acordex on-line store only takes credit cards. Are there other payment options?
Yes. You can pay for your software by check or wire transfer. Use the Acordex Online Store
to choose the products you'd like to purchase and enter you shipping and billing information as usual.
Then click the "Check or Wire transfer" button and follow th on-screen instructions.
We will email you an acknowledgement as soon as we receive your check or wire transfer, and will email a DocKeep license key
once your check or wire transfer clears.

We only accept payment by credit card, check or wire transfer.
For those who have company policies to be in receipt of product prior to payment,
the demo DocKeep software is the full-functioning software (with a time limit on operation) so you are
in receipt of the product immediately upon downloading the demo.

Hardware Compatability
What scanners work with DocKeep?
Fujitsu Workgroup, Departmental or Production scanners:
see the current scanner list.
What are the computer requirements for running DocKeep?
- Computer: Macintosh OS X computer running System 10.4 or above, PowerPC or Intel processor.
- USB: A USB port is required for the scanner. USB-2 is required for
full speed operation of the scanner and software.
How much disk space will I need?
The DocKeep program itself takes less than 4 MB. Image storage, however, is very
dependent on the types of documents you scan, the resolution, and your
choice of B&W vs. grey vs. color. As a rough guide for business
documents, i.e. forms, contracts, letters, accounting documents,
etc. scanned at 200 dpi in B&W, plan on using one gigabyte of disk
space for roughly 10,000 to 22,000 pages when saving PDF files. When
saving as TIFF, plan on 17,000 to 35,000 pages per gigabyte. Color
pages can easily take ten times that space or more.
Is there a Windows or Linux version of DocKeep?
No. There may be a version for other operating systems in the future, and we'd be
glad to hear your requirements if you're interested in such a product, but currently
DocKeep runs exclusively on Macintosh OS X.
Can a Windows or Linux computer use the documents that I scan with DocKeep?
Yes. All of DocKeep's image format options are industry standards supported by all computers.
For example, if you scan a document with DocKeep, and
email the file to a Windows or Linux user, that user will be able to
use it just as he would use any image file in a PDF, JPEG, PNG or TIFF format.
Using DocKeep
DocKeep looks like it's copying a section of an image, but I
can't paste it into Microsoft Word.
DocKeep copies sections of an image in Macintosh's current high resolution format.
This allows larger, clearer images to be copied.
Older versions of Microsoft Word don't support pasting in high resolution format,
but Word 2008 does. Upgrade to Word 2008 if
you want to use the added benefits of this feature.
Why do I get a "Cannot Identify the keyboard" message when installing the ScanShare device?
If you are using a ScanShare device, the first time you switch
computers, the computer may report that it "cannot identify the keyboard."
This is a false alarm. Do not continue with the setup.
Just hit the red 'close window' button in the upper left. This should
only happen the first time you use this device.
Click a red triangle to display the FAQs in that category.
